Volumetric Concrete Mixer Truck - Mobile Batch Plants

Using Mobile Batch Plants for Concrete cement work has many benefits from the George L. Throop Company A volumetric concrete mixer is a concrete batch plant on wheels.

A volumetric concrete mixer truck is a mobile concrete production plant mounted on a transport vehicle. The mixer is loaded with the component materials of coarse aggregates, sand, cement, and water used to produce fresh concrete. These materials can be mixed in a consistent, regulated manner with admixtures to produce a specified concrete mix design on a continuous or intermittent basis, on site, where the mix is to be placed. All ingredients are held in their own separate bins or tanks.

The volumetric mixer truck (VM) is the key to allowing a well-trained crew to work with Rapid Set Concrete. RSC sets and gains strength fast – usually in about an hour so using ready-mix trucks to deliver Rapid Set Cement is not a practical option. The volumetric mixer truck produces the concrete seconds before placing, ensuring the freshest concrete possible. Throop’s crew can bring their experience and train crews in all of the aspects of the job therefore ensuring a smooth and successful operation that opens on time!!

Our fleet of Trailer-mounted Mobile Batch plants lined up from the George L. Throop Company

Our concrete portable batch plants are chassis- or trailer- mounted and allow the mixing and blending of concrete materials on job sites. One of the biggest advantages of the mobile batch plant is the total control and ability to produce many types of specialty concrete mixes.

Individual machines are self-contained and can produce from one to 60 cubic yards per hour. We have produced concrete on mountain tops, as well as on vessels, barges, and on islands. When the concrete pour exceeds the capacity of the plant, additional materials are delivered to the site and fed into the machine therefore never having to stop work.

Benefits of Mobile Batch Plants

  • Allows the use of specialty cements like Rapid Set® Cement to achieve very early strength concrete.
  • Production and placement of concrete in precisely the amount needed.
  • The ingredients can be loaded while production never stops.
  • Production of concrete can stop and start as needed, meaning no wasted concrete.
  • Concrete produced when needed at the job site. The freshest concrete possible. Never a "hot load".
  • Total control over slump for cross slope and hill grade applications.
  • Excellent for jobs too far from central mixing plants.
  • No unnecessary water added to the mix increasing the water to cement ratio.

Truck-mounted Mobile Batch plant for smaller concrete producing jobs from the George L. Throop Company

Using Volumetric Concrete Mixers allow us to:

  • Control water-to-cement ratio
  • Start and stop production as needed (no waste)
  • Concrete is always fresh – never a "hot" load
  • Slump can be adjusted depending on application

Quality of Concrete production:

Concrete production from a volumetric mixer must meet the same standards as batch plants. ASTM C 685, AASHTO 241M, VMMB, and Caltrans C109. Volumetric mixer trucks produce the same quality concrete as a batch plant with the same accuracy. Throop’s volumetric mixers are calibrated and certified monthly by Caltrans authorities.

The George L. Throop Company also coordinates material mix designs and any other services required to provide maximum service to our customers. Our equipment meets and continues to exceed all government regulations for accuracy and consistency.
